Good Sound Club owned by an idiot
Because of the logging-in problems here, I was boring a little, so for the first time in my life I visited a website called "Good Sound Club"
There is an idiot named Romy the Cat, I think he is the owner of that site.
My God he really thinks he knows everything much better than anyone else.
I think he blocked me because of my nickname, what an indecent idiot!
I just wanted to say that!!

He posted on Audio Asylum until he was kicked off, too crazy for the asylum. Every once and a while I'll check his site to see if there is anything useful going on, not often.
For laughs, I sometimes visit his site.
I suspect he is quite knowledgeable....and seems to have invested significantly in his own (albeit very complex) horn system.
That said, his tolerance for others is very very low. He doesn't sound like a happy individual to me....I suspect his closets friends are his big black horns!!!
Calling him an idiot is a bad thing to do. Many idiots would be resentful about it.

Roman is a complex guy. I have been frustrated with him at times (okay, most of the time) due to his supreme rudeness and willful alienation of most other audiophiles and industry professionals, whom he regards as "morons." His taunts and insults are legion, though for the most part he seems to like some of the work I have done and I have been largely spared his poison tongue and pen. In his mind all the commotion he creates is just a big joke and he professes not to understand others' anger with him. I bummed a couple of smokes from him at a trade show years ago and the conversation was a lot of fun. He is without doubt a discerning audiophile with the taste and cash to implement an advanced system. His knowledge of classical recordings of both high musical and audiophile merit is unsurpassed, and his CD compilations are a delight. Like I said, a complex guy.
That has to be the nicest thing anyone's ever said about Roman. Thanks Steve.

I live in a world where you are measured by your accomplishments. Way more than half of Romy's accomplishments are negative, making him a loser in my book.
Very few humans are totally worthless. Dig thru any garbage dump you will find a few usable items.
I don't have the time and don't want to dig thru the smelly garbage. So Romy is worthless to me.
I replace the "can afford good equipment" with "spoiled rich turd who abuses others".
The fact that he is nice in person shows him to be an abject coward. Anybody can hide behind a keyboard and screen.

I have already posted this elsewhere,however since it encapsulates my thoughts about Romy,I present this:

Audio's master Self-Promotor.
If you consider his posts carefully,he is playing with words.He will intentionally misspell and substitute similar sounding words.People interpret this as his ineptitude.Wrong.He is very methodical and meticulous about what he types.
Look at what this guy has done:
With a multitude of deliberate posts to forums worldwide he has built-up a 'profile'.Then(via a website of his own construction)he shows-off his(excellent and expensive) system.He labels others in derogatory ways and promotes himself as a clear thinker.
It's a very deliberate,concerted effort to get to where he is;An internationally recognised figure in the world of audio.His ideas have some well considered merit.The attacks on others appear to be ham dramatics.Designed to stir-up controversy and redirect the spotlight back onto himself.Very astute.
When reading Romy's output one merely has to consider whether there is any merit in what he is saying.Some of what he says is clear thinking.Most is just Romy on his soapbox doing what he does best.Promoting Romy.
He clearly loves music and it's obvious that he is passionate about ekeing the deepest connection to the music out of his system.It's a pleasure to see his passion for music.His attacks on others are deliberately petty,rude and condescending/demeaning.They achieve the goal of getting people talking about him(we are doing it now aren't we?).
He is obviously a very,very smart guy.
Do I agree with his methods?Well,self-promotion is always a little self serving.He goes a lot further with self-promotion than most people outside of politicians.It's not something I ever wish to emulate.He is sacrificing good manners for his ideal of elevating his profile,probably because he has found that notoriety can elevate one's public profile quicker than admiration will.
He's worth a chuckle,but not worth any angst.In the Big Picture,anyone's views on audio "don't amount to a hill of beans".Romy's opinion especially.
